support the tenth street neighborhood resource center

This fall, we’re calling on our friends to help us make the Tenth Street Neighborhood Resource Center a reality.

In 2012, [bc] purchased a historic home in the Tenth Street Historic District, working with residents to co-envision a Neighborhood Resource Center which would host capacity-building workshops for residents, arts and cultural events to celebrate the rich history of the community, and opportunities to learn about the process of renovations. Through the generous support of funding partners, [bc] worked to complete all architectural design work and construction documents, secure construction permits and a Certificate of Appropriateness, and finish needed demolition work on the interior of the structure.

During the demolition process, we discovered that the frame was more damaged than anticipated, necessitating a complete reframing. Now, we’re working to raise funds for the next phase of this project, which will address the immediate stabilization of the structure.

Through Communities Foundation of Texas’s North Texas Giving Day, we raised $1,073 in support of this effort. The cost to repair the frame, foundation, and roof, which is in need of immediate repair to protect the structure from water damage, is estimated at over $10,000. To help meet our fundraising goal, we’ve launched a campaign on Crowdrise. We hope you’ll consider making a donation in support of community-based efforts in this historically significant neighborhood.
